Treating Brown Spots

Brown Spots, sometimes called liver spots are areas of darker skin that often look like large dark freckles. They are normally caused by long-term sun damage but occasionally can be caused by bruising that leaves behind pigment from the blood.

Most brown spots appear on aging hands, but they can appear on any part of the body that is exposed to the sun such as the face, neck, and back. At Glo Med Spa & Wellness, we use IPL which is a non-invasive and advanced method for getting rid of age spots.

Intense Pulse Light (IPL)

This is a painless, non-invasive therapy, which destroys the dark spots without damaging the surrounding tissue and involves no significant swelling or recovery time. The IPL device sends light through the skin.

This light is absorbed by the darker tissue and destroys the darker pigment cells. These dead cells rise to the surface and slough off, leaving behind the lighter tissue.

IPL treatment for brown spots is a gradual process. Traditional laser treatment would remove the age spots more quickly by destroying a large amount of tissue in one session which is very painful and causes severe swelling.

Our IPL treatments are gentle and painless and therefore require several sessions. Typically brown spots can be removed in three to five sessions, but each patient is unique and it is impossible to predict exactly how many sessions will be required to remove all of the dark tissue.
